‘An association of global satellite operators working to ensure a controlled, reliable and efficient space environment’

Satellite orbiting the earth

Space Data Association

The Space Data Association (SDA) is an international organization that brings together satellite operators to support the controlled, reliable and efficient sharing of data critical to the safety and integrity of the space environment. The SDA membership includes the world’s major satellite communications companies.

Formed in 2009, the SDA aims to enhance safety of flight via sharing of operational data and promotion of best practices across the industry. The SDA is also working to improve the accuracy and timeliness of collision warning notifications, as well as working with all interested entities to help define the next generation of STM systems and capabilities.

Why Join?

Data from ESA. Estimated pieces of debris as of September 2024

Greater than 10cm

between 1cm and 10cm

Between 1mm and 1cm

The Space Data Association collates independently pooled data from operators to prevent collisions. Participants receive secure, reliable and immediate access to this accurate information and analysis that greatly improves operations for:

  • Conjunction assessment
  • Authoritative contact information for a given space object

Participants can be assured of following the best industry practises for the mitigation of operational risks, while at the same time, reducing their workloads by automatically passing data on to the SDA’s Space Data Center.
